Group Buying Bug just hit Kenya!
-

Since the success of Groupon and LivingSocial, which are group buying sites that blend in e-commerce and the ubiquity of social media there have been several clones sprouting faster than the original companies can expand. The reason why the clones flourish just as much as the originals would is that localization and niche marketing is as infinite and diverse as there are cultures, hence the market.
There are three such websites I’ve come across and I think there are several yet to come with different dynamic.
Zetu Deals which launched beginning of November 2010 seems to be off to a promising start. They’ve had four deals to offer so far, the first being an 80% off discount to watch a movie at Fox Cineplex Sarit Centre. It may not be possible to hold such discounts for their business model but it was a good introductory offer. Another such site is SokoPal whose only deal I’ve seen so far is still active. It does help to have a history tab for previous deals if one is to trust your business. MyShillings, also a group buying website was born at the recently held IPO48 event at the iHub. They don’t seem to have started operating though.Related interesting reads: What makes Groupon Tick,Video Pitch of IPO48 Winner
